Open Sesame Automatic Door Opener

Open Sesame is a voice activated automatic door opener that works on any free swinging door: front door, storm door, interior door, gate, lift & residential elevator.

Hands-Free Door Access for Your Home

For someone using a wheelchair, scooter or walker, a heavy door can be the hardest part of getting in or out of the house. Pushing a door open while rolling through it, or holding it with one hand while steering with the other, is tiring and can lead to falls or injuries. An Open Sesame automatic door opener removes that obstacle. The door opens, waits while you pass through, and closes behind you, without anyone needing to help.

Open Sesame is designed for homes. It mounts to your existing door and frame, so in most cases there is no need to replace the door or make major changes to the entrance. Our technicians install it cleanly and set the opening speed, hold-open time and closing force to suit the user.

Where an Automatic Door Opener Helps Most

  • Front and back doors for coming and going independently
  • Storm doors, which are often heavy and close quickly
  • Interior doors to bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Garage entry doors, often the main route in and out for drivers with a vehicle lift
  • Gates to pool areas, patios and yards
  • Doors at porch lifts and residential elevators, so the user can move from the lift into the house without help

Who Benefits from Open Sesame

Automatic door openers help wheelchair and scooter users, people with limited hand strength or arthritis, people recovering from surgery or stroke, older adults aging in place, and caregivers who are often carrying something while assisting a loved one. Voice activation is especially useful for users with limited reach or hand function, because the door can open without touching a button or handle.

Part of a Complete Accessible Entrance

An automatic door opener works best as part of a full accessible route into the home. Many of our customers pair Open Sesame with a wheelchair ramp or a porch lift (vertical platform lift), so they can get from the driveway into the house with no steps and no doors to wrestle with. Inside the home, a stair lift or ceiling lift can complete the picture. During your free evaluation we look at the whole route, not just one door, and recommend what will make the biggest difference.

Our Installation Process

  1. Free in-home evaluation. We check the door, frame, swing direction, clearance and power, and talk about how the door will be used.
  2. Recommendation and quote. We confirm Open Sesame is the right fit and give you a clear written quote.
  3. Professional installation. Our factory-trained technicians mount the opener, adjust it for safe operation, and test it with the user.
  4. Training and support. We show you and your family how to use the opener, and we are available for service and adjustments.

Automatic Door Opener FAQs

Will it work with my existing door?

In most cases, yes. Open Sesame is made for free-swinging residential doors and attaches to your existing door and frame. During the evaluation we confirm the door’s weight, swing and clearance, and let you know if anything needs adjusting first.

Can my family still open the door by hand?

We set the opener up so the door still works normally for everyone else in the home. Family members and visitors can come and go as usual, while the user gets hands-free access when they need it.

How long does installation take?

Most single-door installations are completed in one visit. If you are adding openers on several doors, or combining the opener with a ramp or porch lift, we schedule the work so your entrance is out of service for as little time as possible.

Is it only for wheelchair users?

No. Automatic door openers help anyone who finds doors difficult, including people who use walkers or canes, people with arthritis or limited strength, and caregivers who need their hands free.
