Ceiling Lifts & Patient Lifts in Florida

Moving from a bed to a wheelchair, toilet or shower is one of the most common times for falls and caregiver injuries. A ceiling lift takes the strain out of every transfer. Reigning Mobility installs ceiling-mounted patient lifts from Handicare and Mackworth in homes and care settings throughout Florida, giving users a safer transfer and caregivers a lighter load.

What Is a Ceiling Lift?

A ceiling lift is a motorized patient lift that runs along a track mounted to the ceiling. The user is supported in a comfortable sling, and the lift raises and moves them along the track with the push of a button. Because the lift lives overhead, it takes up no floor space, there is no heavy floor lift to wheel around, and the room stays open for wheelchairs and walkers.

Types of Ceiling Lift Systems

Straight Track Systems

A single straight track is the simplest setup, typically running from the bed to a wheelchair position or from the bedroom into an adjoining bathroom.

Traverse (X-Y) Systems

A traverse system uses two parallel rails with a moving rail between them, so the lift can reach almost any point in the room. It is ideal for larger bedrooms or when transfers happen in several places.

Room-to-Room Systems

With a gate or transfer point, the track can continue from the bedroom into the bathroom, so the user can be moved to the toilet or shower without changing lifts.

Freestanding Systems

When the ceiling cannot support a permanent track, such as in some rentals or older homes, a freestanding frame provides the same overhead lift without anchoring into the ceiling.

Benefits for Users and Caregivers

  • Safer, smoother transfers with less risk of falls
  • Reduced back and shoulder strain for spouses, family members and home health aides
  • Often lets one caregiver handle transfers that would otherwise need two people
  • More dignity and comfort for the user
  • No floor lift to store or maneuver around the bed

Ceiling Lift or Floor Lift?

Portable floor lifts are a common first step, but they are heavy to push across carpet, need clear floor space around the bed, and can be hard to use in small bathrooms. A ceiling lift does the same job from above. It glides along the track with almost no effort, works in tight spaces, and is always in place when it is needed. For users who need several transfers a day, most caregivers find a ceiling lift far easier and safer to use.

Is My Ceiling Strong Enough?

Most Florida homes can support a ceiling track when it is anchored into the ceiling joists or trusses correctly. During the assessment we locate the framing, check the span and plan the anchor points. If the structure is not suitable, or you rent your home, we can recommend a freestanding system that needs no ceiling mounting at all.

Choosing the Right Sling

The sling matters as much as the lift. Different slings are made for seated transfers, toileting, bathing and full-body support, and they come in several sizes. We help you choose slings that fit the user, match how they will be used, and are comfortable for long periods, and we show caregivers how to fit them correctly every time.

Our Ceiling Lift Installation Process

  1. Free in-home assessment. We look at the rooms involved, the transfers needed, ceiling structure, door openings and power.
  2. System design. We recommend the track layout, lift and sling type from Handicare or Mackworth that suits the user’s weight and care needs.
  3. Professional installation. Our factory-trained technicians mount the track securely into the ceiling structure and test the system.
  4. Caregiver training. We show the user and caregivers how to fit the sling, operate the lift and charge it, so everyone is confident from day one.

Ceiling Lifts for Veterans

Reigning Mobility is a VA-approved provider and a women-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned small business. We install ceiling lifts for veterans through VA medical centers across Florida, including veterans with spinal cord injuries and other conditions that make transfers difficult. Learn about VA programs on our Veterans & VA Benefits page.

Complete Home Accessibility

A ceiling lift is often one part of making a home work for someone with limited mobility. We also install stair lifts, wheelchair ramps, porch lifts and automatic door openers, so we can plan the whole route from the driveway to the bedroom. We serve homes across Florida; see our service areas.
